Subaru has given the world some quirky/unual cars, and we love them for that.

No one else gave the world:

a 3 cylinder, AWD, hatchback.

a compact-sized, AWD, "sporty coupe"....and the choice of 4 or 6 cylinder power

a minitruck with AWD and seats IN THE TRUCKBED

a mid-sized sport coupe with AWD and styling that would NOT have shamed the best from Italy's styling houses.

and SUVs/crossovers that are great to look at and go like h+ll.

BUT, but, Subaru has never given the world a car to compete with the Miata or Honda's S2000. So, someone else has done it for them.

I found this website advertized in the latest is of the British mag PERFORMANCE CAR. Their ad states they will build a car to your specs, using Subaru AWD mechanicals. A sort of AWD Miata.

And no, I am in no way, shape, or form associated with or compensated by AMS. I just thought others might find this interesting.

It's funny how there's always a company willing to build a custom anything for those of us willing to pay for it. That's pretty cool.

I had several Brat's over the years. It's interesting to know why they put seats in the back of the bed. They were complete with seat belts, adjustable head rests and hand grips for those "Oh Snap" moments. The Brats were considered "passenger cars" and avoided the special import tax levied on light trucks in the mid 1980's. Once the law was changed in '86 the seats weren't available on the '87 model and it was discontinued completely for the U.S. market due to cost.

Now you know.

I assume that is the Murtaya. There is a guy in the US in Colorado who is assembling them. They appear to be a mean machine.

You know, at 11,500 pounds (the British money), they wouldn't be that expensive as a kit car...

Dammit, I want one!

Edit: Went to the Murtaya USA site. At $25k sans donor, that's a little pricier than, say, A Factory Five roadster. I still want one, though.
