Hey guys,
Well this morning I worked on pulling my 12A from my 78 RX-7,and found something really odd. When I dropped the oil pan I found two unused pop rivets sitting in it. I have no idea how they got there,or how long they have been there. I know I didn't put them in there, and I don't even own a pop riveter or rivets. Maybe the original owner,or someone who is pissed at me,and wanted to make my engine go boom. well it didn't work. I am only pulling it because of a smoking issue that is most likely due to oil control rings. Anyone else find odd things like this in an engine before?

I've seen a saturn engine fail under warranty (severe piston slap/oil consumption), when the saturn techs pulled it apart, they found a non-saturn piston in one of the cylinders.
My friend bought the car used with 15k miles, certified from a saturn dealer with a extended warranty, and was denied the warranty claim when the engine started consuming oil/piston slap at 64k miles, no one ever figured it out...
In terms of my personal experience, my '89 accord has a alarming amount of coarse to fine sand particles settled in a quarter inch of sludge at the bottom of the oil pan, but doesn't consume a drop of oil in between the 7.5k mile oil changes, with 130k miles on it... just like the hudson river, maybe it's wiser to take the "do not disturb" policy.
Found a 1/2 combination wrench laying in the lifter valley of a 400 Pontiac once.
Had a 2.0 German Ford engine which developed a weird highway speed overheating problem. Pulled the thermostat housing, found pecan shells clogging the thermostat.
The car sat for a while at a relative's house before I bought it, obviously the squirrels were pissed when the engine went bye bye.
