Don't convert it, just step up to an 8v system.

Find a forklift battery that will fit in your battery box, they're 8 volts.

Adjust your voltage regulator up to handle the new 8v system.

No further work is needed. Bulbs etc will all function on 8v just fine even though they are 6v.

Starter will work better with more juice.

I've done this on a couple old 6v vehicles and it's worked great. My buddy used his '56 IHC 1/2 ton for a work truck for about 6 years with this system, still working great when he sold the truck.

I tend to agree, I've never had issues running 6v systems but these guys will be using it on the adventure rallies I put on so they are concerned with parts availability if they have issues out on the road. Still going back and forth on the discussion, at the end of the day it's their call, I'm just the enabler on this one :)
