Ive come to a perhaps moral dilemma with my cars. I like my older quirky beasts but yet I am kind of growing tired of turning the key and something else is broken or not functioning, growing dash cracks and those 100+ degree days with no a/c.
So heres the deal, my budget is about $7000 (a little wiggle room). Looking for ideas for a fun car that is a good all year beast in Wisconsin. Ideally I want an STI but that isnt going to happen anytime soon. Only real conditions that I want met are that it has working a/c, a manual gearbox and is relatively reliable.

WRX's are starting to get down that far. STi it's not, but WI winters it will dominate.
Bugeye WRX can definitely be had for that price. If you have the time you can find a rust free one in the south for cheaper.
I bought an 02 WRX wagon with 75k miles in AR a couple years ago for $7500 so deals on good ones are out there if you look.

Weird, I got a good deal on a bugeye wagon in NW Arkansas back in 08. :D Just got totaled out, so looking for a replacement. Have seen a few sub 100K samples in the 7500 range. Try and search a little farther, and remember a lot of rental car companies will do one way rentals for cheap. It was less than $40 for a one way rental to pick my WRX up.

Never thought of the one way rental idea...may have to indeed broaden my search as wrx's seem pretty hard to come by for under 8k in my area
Are Forester XTs down to that price level yet? I've always loved them as a sleeper. Chances are the cops will ignore you too!
