Gah, that's another item I left behind in the UK thanks to my hurried packing up there.

Basically, I hate those preinsulated crimp connectors with a vengeance and very much prefer the non-insulated ones as they crimp better, even though you'll end up either having to add heat shrink tubing or get separate insulators.

However, I don't seem to be able to find the connectors and the crimping tools anywhere, which suggests I'm looking in all the wrong places again. Any suggestions as to where I could find these elusive tools?

Here are a couple of hotlinks to what I'm after (basically the kit that I left in the UK):

And that's what the connectors look like:

Of course in the worst case I can just order them in the UK from the company above but the postage is going to be a tad on the high side.

I think you can get them from http://www.parts-express.com/

Quick search on their website shows only the insulated variety, unfortunately.

I have made my own by removing the insulation in a pinch.

www.waytekwire.com is one source, off the top of my head. I've seen cheapo non-insulated crimp terminals in little bubble packs at the local Auto Zone, you can probably get them from the local Radio Shack as well.

Industrial electrical supply house,Graingers,MSC is an industrial supply house. For a brand name Panduit comes to mind or Scotch makes the also. Heat and air supply houses usually carry them also.

As for engineering samples, and they will mail them to you. For free.

I wired my 74 GTV that way.

While it seems shady, I called Molex directly, asking the really nice operator where I can get them- she didn't know- but suggested asking for a sample. Golden.

Hmm. I had a good look around the various websites and it seems that with the exception of British Wiring, the uninsulated connectors are really just the insulated ones with the insulation removed, which isn't the case for the connectors I linked to above.

British Wiring looks kinda promising and I've emailed the guys in the UK to see how much it would cost to send over one of their more comprehensive kits. Chances are that it'll be rather costly but if you don't ask, you don't get.

It's not really insulated terminals you don't like, it's normal crimp terminals. I've seen that style, usually in pre-packaged relay blocks. And I find they have a very high failure rate for me, even with the correct sort of crimping tool. Not a fan, me.

By the way, here's my source for terminals. I like the ones with the built-in heat-shrink myself, but for those aficionados of nekkid butt connectors: http://www.delcity.net/store/Non!insulated-Terminals/p_185631.a_1

I browsing on my phone, but try searching for high temp crimp connectors. they are usually stainless steel with no insulator ring.

I used components from British Wiring when I rewired our Spitfire. From spade to bullet connectors (as well as additional wire not included in the kit). I usually crimped then soldered them. Other than being 'new' it matched the original stuff. I'm guessing it's sourced from England.
