One of these days I'm going to build a Subaru-engined Corvair for a good friend.  Knowing him as I do, reliability is way more important than power.  I'm thinking about a 6 cyl because Corvair.  No turbos.

Question is, SVX engine or newer 3.6L?

Next question is, links to Sube H6 swaps?

SVX would be way easier do to the electronic simplicity, but availability and condition might be a concern. The newest engine is over 20 years old.

The 3.6 is still being made. The electronics are vastly more complicated and the engine itself has a weird offset rod configuration, but NA you should be fine.

Watch the Might Car Mods series  called Super Gramps. Marty puts a 3.6 into a Liberty (Legacy) wagon...and turbocharges it. I believe he used a Haltech ECU, so it definitely can be done.

mightycarmods supergramps is a turbo EZ36 you can find that build on youtube. but that was a h6 into a chassis that came with an h6 as an option

but if you want true reliability and subaru you might as well build an EJ22.

I'd do the 3.6 for availability reasons, and not use the factory electronics on ANY Subaru swap.

What about the eg33 with ITBs? Those sound TITS yo!

You could potentially find the EJ30 used in the SVX cheaply but they are becoming rare and are known in Subaru circles for leaking oil. Personally, I would go the newer 3.6 despite it's weirdness to get a newer motor with more spare parts available.

The EZ30D is the easy choice. Much more common than the SVX motor. Doesn't make as much power, but can be made to run on a swap much easier than the R series motors. The EZ30R and EZ36R are more powerful motors, but the electronics are a good deal more expensive to get right than the D version. There's a guy who has a business and is very active on the Factory Five 818 group who will sell you a reasonably priced chip that will run the R versions, and he'll also sell you a harness to go with it.

What were you planning on using for a tranny? The stock Corvair's ratios aren't ideal, and it's reverse rotation anyway.

Probably Subaru transaxle with SubaruGears reversed r&p.  This whole build is just a festering idea at this point.  No plans to start buying parts until I'm counting fat stacks from the Childo.

Stock electronics wired up to a swapped EG33 (from SVX) behave perfectly fine.  It's an old enough and simple enough ECU that it doesn't need much to run properly.  We ran one in our Insight challenge car, using the factory ECU, and parts of the stock harness.
