My first thought... a tax refund is not free money, it's most likely your money that was deducted from your paycheck throughout the year. If you get a refund you should change your withholdings so you can have more money each paycheck.
I am hoping I get some of everyone else's money since I'm in the po-boy tax bracket....
setting it aside for next years taxes

I filed ours last night.... Out of what comes back and goes right back out, there might be enough to get a cup of coffee for each of us....
ours is going towards the new house...the one that will have a 3 car garage with a heated and cooled loft above it

I found it funny that my tax return for $2012 was, wait for it, $2012.
Does that mean I'm supposed to find a way to get to the Challenge?

Generally I get about a hundred bucks back, but this year it comes from a lucky little discrepancy between German and American tax codes. I paid enough tax in Germany this year so that the month or so I worked in the US isn't taxed, and I didn't work long enough in Germany this year for the entire amount I earned to be taxed (at a 43% tax rate, at that!). I hope to be getting back a little over $10 grand when it's all said and done.
Though, $10,000 could pay for one HELL of a set of suspension and turbo for the S...

why lucky? did you pay off debt with gambling winnings? fortunate, perhaps, hard-working and disciplined, perhaps, but probably not lucky.

I think the Fiat 124 is the only sports car on that list but I would like to find one in my driveway one day.
+1
However (and I know this is blasphomy here) I am getting away from cars. Soon my 124 will be for sale and so will my volvo (keeping the saab though) asi get prepared to to buy and move onto a boat full time.
Are you moving your free money to boats entirely, or are you moving onto a boat?
Either way, cool! And if it is the latter, I expect you to document the experience here.
Moving onto a boat.. not the boat I posted, obviously, it is only 19 feet long. But it was designed by the guy who built the boat I want.. so sailing that for a year or two to get the hang of a full keeled sailboat should allow me to hop up to a larger 37 with some ease.
My plans are 8 months of the year in NJ working.. and all winter in the keys, bahamas or somewhere in the caribbean
I'll go ahead and file this in my " somemorecoolE36 M3IcouldhavedoneifInevergotmarried" file.

If you can get a Nismo 350z like pictured in page 1 for your tax money by all means do so, lol. I doubt you can get one for that price.

Tax refund?
Oh wait, North Carolina owes me $37. What can I get for $37?

There are thousands of nice cars on craigslist for $1. So... 37 of those.

Tax ... refund? I've heard of those. Never seen one, though. :-(
@sobe_death: between FICA and SS withholding (self-employment income) and federal taxes we are at 40% right here in America. Granted that's not on an entry level salary. But it was painful to do our estimated taxes for 2013, that's for sure.

If you're getting any more than a couple hundred bucks on your return, someone seriously needs to explain to you why making annual interest free loans to the government is not a wise investment.
I have wondered that myself.
hey it's your money.

I work for multiple companies on an "on call" basis.. so I could do $500 worth of work at one.. or $30,000 worth of work at another. I have them take out extra money with each paycheque so I do not wind up owing several thousand dollars because I made a lot of money in small incriments at several companies
