We were in the Denver area for a tournament one of my sons was in.  When we were done yesterday, we took a drive to the top of Mt. Evans.  As we were paying the toll to drive up the road, this pulled up behind us.  We didn't see it again after we paid our toll as we started driving and it was still sitting at the booth.  When we arrived at the top of the mountain, we saw another one in the parking lot.  A few minutes later, the one that must have been behind us pulled in.  We could hear a throaty grumble from the exhaust, so I have to think it was the V.  Clearly a test mule, as the exhaust tips looked very sloppy...they looked like poorly done bologna cut tips that belong on a street rod and stuck out from the bumper.   My oldest son went to ask the guys if he could look at the car and they turned him away.  They weren't shinny happy people, they were nice and I know they were doing their job, so no harm no foul.  However, it was pretty funny because they were standing outside the car with both driver and passenger door wide open.  After they told my son that he couldn't look inside, my wife said "Well, perhaps you ought to close the door because I'm staring inside the car from here".  They laughed and shut the doors.

My dad and I saw some Charger mules on Mt Evans in 2010 or thereabouts, so it must be a popular spot. We saw the same cars and a transporter again later that night, they were staying at the same hotel we were at in Dillon, CO. I remember that day pretty distinctly because of the epic misadventure we'd had hiking, the highlights of which include altitude sickness, getting trapped in a lightning storm well above treeline at 13k ft elevation, and scaling a 500 ft cliff face up a narrow, wet, grassy band.

FYI, the exhaust tips are for emissions and dyno testing.  The flanges make a nice sealed connection to any type of exhaust extraction- be it for emissions testing or just getting it out of the cell.

For others in the area, another popular pass is Loveland pass- which is also the hazardous truck pass around the tunnels.  It's also free, but not as high as Mt Evans or Pikes Peak.

I just thought that exhaust was the new low standard for manufacturers....
