Dunno if this is a repost, but looks like Jay Chen (former EIC at SCC) is on at Modified...which I (gulp) purchased one to see how his content will change the rag. While I didnt see anything from him, he was listed as Tech Editor, and I remember him having putting in some good work at SCC. I do have to say, Modified had a lot less insane Body kit and male enhancements ads than I remember, and seemed to be a little more focussed on tech and objectivity. Still pointed directly at the Honda crowd..and some Nissan I guess. But it did have a review of the HHR SS..and didnt bash it all to hell surprisingly.

I am just glad he didnt waste away, and hopefully SCC just changed its name. GRM is still #1 in my book...err mag...whatever, but its good to see deidcated car guys keeping at it even when times get rough

Maybe I'll pick up a copy of Modified off the stand.

Dave Coleman just popped up writing for Top Gear America. They're doing a 70 mpg diesel Golf project...can't remember if I read about it on this board or another, but it's pertinent to the thread. I'd read just about anything Coleman writes.

Any of us that still had anything left on our SCC subs got Modified. I'm on the fence. I don't think I'll be renewing. That money goes to GRM.

I was a long time subscriber to SCC and it got me into cars and racing them. And is probably the reason I am a faithful reader of GRM as GRM is now the only the mag that focuses on racing. I got the new issue of Modified because my subscription got switched over and it was better then it used to be but it still sucked. I will miss the USCC.

I always enjoyed the artical they put in the back with a brief detail of a car, usually an underdog.

For those interested I've found what Dave Coleman is up to... Interesting group of articles. It's nice to see he's back in the biz of writing for enthusiast!

Yea i've been following that, Jared Holstien, also from scc is part of that project.

I remember hearing that Coleman was posting about a rally mazda 3 build on some rally site but i can't remember the name of it.

I wish they could do some freelance for GRM. Now that would be awesome!

I picked up an issue of Project Car magazine last night at AutoZone. I had never seen or heard of it but it is another Source Interlink publication. It doesn't look too bad but I don't know why they would kill SCC and keep this one.

probably because project can operate on a LOT smaller budget...the finish of project car isnt nearly as nice, but it does have some decent content...its mostly just a bunch of step by step LSD, clutch replace and fender flare installs etc etc. Its definitely got a SCC feel about it though. Not too mayn kajillion dollar all JDM 2011 superlexus drift machines, and more 92 SE-R track cars...so they should fit in well round these parts (I stop by the mag row at the grocery pretty much everytime I go...the old lady cant figure out why it always takes me 45 minto pick up milk and TP )

I drew a picture of that on a post-it note a while back and posted it to my computer except instead of "i" I used the equation. I think I saw it on a t-shirt.

Project car is an off-shoot of Super Street. It's like a side project for doing random one time stuff to cars. I like seeing the progression of a project and picking up the good advice and cheaper ways to do things.

I have the first issue of Project Car. Considering it's from Stupid Street, it's not a bad magazine for someone with little wrenching experience (like me). Most of S.S.'s over-the-top riceyness is toned down and the writing style/photos have a hold your hand approach to it. If you're a master gearhead like most of the guys on GRM are, then it's like reading an elementary-level math book when you already know calculus.

still cant believe SCC is dead.. was the first car mag i ever picked up and other than GRM the only one I ever enjoyed to read.. R.I.P. looks like GRM is now the only good thing going.. keep it up guys..
