I grew up just down and across the river from Marietta.
Just another part of the militarization of the police. The federal government drones at the DHS practically make it hard for the local PDs to not buy these things. Our government is working overtime preparing for something. I'm just glad I don't live in a city.

Until one of them saves your neighborhood or your kids school.... But that'll NEVER HAPPEN in a place like Sandy Hook... Nahhhh I'm just paranoid!
(Not meant as a knock on your post or you...)
Yeah, except most of the time they use this stuff to serve warrants, violently, without announcing themselves, at 3AM, at the wrong house.
You are far more likely to be killed by the cops in this country than a crazed gunman or terrorists.
This is me waiting fruitlessly for any factual information you have to back any of this up.................
Here's 5 examples in one article.

How long before Shirow's "Tank Police" becomes real?
I love a good gov't conspiracy as much as a anyone but I really can't see how they are going to be able to start rounding up cities full of people and herd them into the a FEMA death camps just because they bought a couple surplus army trucks.

I know an APC ≠ a tank, but there are numerous M113s in police service already.
I don't think it's going to haul me off to a FEMA camp, but it just seems unnecessary and excessive. It reeks of "We could, so we did." I mean, as someone stated earlier, Ohio State has an MRAP. What possible use does OS fricking U have for this (their actual vehicle)?
If police departments get to have MRAPs and APCs because they think they might need one someday (even though nothing in their previous experience has ever suggested they will,) then no one in the government ever gets to question why I have an AR15.
This crap is also why we have such big budget deficits now. Tax income is higher than it's ever been but every podunk town in America can slap together a "homeland security" grant application and get a million bucks to buy a "mobile command center" and so spending growth has outstripped our amazing tax growth.
