Saw a really cool car, that I don't know what it was.
Late 60's/early 70's vintage sportscar. Looked kind of like a cross between a 240z and a Corvette Stingray. I'd guess British manufacture. 2-door coupe. Long hood with the sort of shoulder-bladed front wheel wells. Pop up lights set inbound a fair amount. Front lip spoiler.
Only saw it from the front. Really cool car, and I wish I'd gotten a closer look. Any idea what this was?
Opel GT. German import, sold at Buick dealerships.

Always loved the looks of those & almost had one once, but don't they have a solid-beam front suspension? How well do they really drive?

A friend had one back in the 70s that I drove a good bit. Seemed to handle pretty well. Always loved the body style. Not a lot of power, but a really cool car. Have also seen one with a blown SBC in it.. talk about over the top!

One lives just down the street from me.A girlfriend many years ago had one & had to prop the hood up with a broomhandle. There was an article about them in one of the Hemmings magazines a couple of months ago. That's all I know about them.
darn I almost bought one when I was in the Navy.... 'course I almost bought lots of things that I now regret not buying
Opel GT. Got one! Finishing up resto on it, it runs and drives now. My Opel GT In fact, drove it to work today. Imported from Germany, body made in France and sold at Buick dealers in the 60's & 70's. The headlight roll over and are cable operated. The 1.9 cam-in-head engine isn't really very powerful but will keep up with traffic. Handles pretty well as it's really just a Kadette suspension beefed up with slighter stiffer springs and shocks. The front suspension is a tranverse leaf spring, rear is coil. To transplant a V8 into one takes a lot of cutting and you lose things like the heater in the process. No trunk or hatchback, the cargo area is behind the seats accessed through the door. Fun car that draws attention and gawkers. Not as fast as it looks and the stories of pegging the 160-mph speedometer are just that - stories. Top speed is about 112 by the brochure.
Oh and great for tall drivers, lots of leg room. Had a friend 6'6" and he fit in it stretched out.
