I'm thinking Challenge sub-class, at some point... Be fun to show up at the UTCC, too.
Wasn't 'street legal' part of Dusterbd13-michael's plan for his Tommy Boy build (over on the Builds and Projects forum)? I think he's got a Duster body to drop over the tube frame. So, not exactly a sprint car but still cool.
I've thought it be cool to do a street legal dirt late model. They use a 2 speed internal clutch race transmission so you wouldn't want that on the street but a powerglide would do the trick just fine. You will usually find a glide in the street legal sprint cars.
I saw a modified class Sprint in a grocery store parking lot just as a middle aged guy came out with a bag of groceries. He climbed in (no idea where the bag went) fired it up rattling windows and headed out.
So if you can do that, why not a retired Formula Vee etc.?

"Formula Vee -- where you are the crumple zone"
I love the idea of being able to drive whatever funky vehicle you like on public roads, but even my Boxster seems to disappear amid the sea of big trucks and SUVs on the road. Drive anything much smaller and the odds are not in your favor.
