If I had a nickle for everyone who called my Samurai a Jeep or a Jeep owner telling me to buy a "real Jeep" I'd have like a billion dollars (more like 50 cents).
Obviously not the first, just knew my vehicles suited my personality or needs then looked for ways to modify them to suit me betterer.
We're talking pre-Internet when I had to actually go to speed shops and metal fab shops to get things built without having stolen a bunch of ideas from some Internet site or clicking on a picture with a credit card in hand. im sure many of us here can attest. It was tough back then!
Don't take this the wrong way. I don't think I'm cool or whatever is trendy to say. I'm just saying I don't get the irony of putting so much time and effort to be "different" only to look like 85% of those on your age bracket (or hobby etc.)
It seems like I struck a nerve with my original statement. It was a very pretty car, it just struck me that it had become a very one dimensional car. Just for posing and looking pretty, with so much dynamic goodness being lost in the process. Don't get me wrong, I like pretty things as much as the next guy. I like to look at vapid, beautiful women too, it just seems a shame that they could have been more, if only their ignorant chauvinist parents had just dragged them out in the world and taught them something about life, made them something more. To me that'd be way sexier than some ornament, who doesnt get why boats float or planes fly or water boils. It just seems that people let things be simplistic because it's easier or because they don't know the underlying potential. To my eye that's all that nsx was. I'd still hit it though.

Boy do I love this line!

Sinking money in to them is an investment of money, whether you MAKE money off of them or NOT. besides "invest" meaning look for profit, it also means "to devote (effort, resources, etc., to a project)" AND "to purchase; buy" When building my Mustang up, I invested money into the wheels to make the car look better to me. I went from this: to this i "invested" money into the project to get a benefit out of it: aesthetics. And I only had to have the two sets: stock and custom. Technically I didn't "need" the stockers anymore, but I kept them around to revert back to stock when I traded the car in.
New wheels are too big.

You may think you’re not trendy for buying it without considering what others think, but you still bought it because you like it. And if it's made in sufficient quantities for you to find it in the store (I assume you’re not having non likable clothes tailor made with custom unlikable fabrics, textures, colors and patterns) Then many other people like it too. Therefore you have a general look that is similar to others. A trend or scene is just that taken further.
You're also not the only person in the world to autocross, therefore you could be said to be part of the autocross scene. (if not autocross then race, track days, hill climbs whatever)
I have considered both lowering my DD for looks and raising it for a tougher look, I haven’t done it due to $$’s, laziness and time, but I may one day. Can you honestly say you’ve never considered aesthetics when buying or modifying a car, even if it’s just choosing one color over another?
I’m not trying to be a jerk or beat you up, but I think we all do certain things for aesthetic reasons, some people just take it further than us/others and some take it to extremes.

Fixed that for you

Tasty...
How much were they?
In reply to Adrian_Thompson: I know for me, I build or modify my vehicles to improve them for the use they see or what I intend to use them for (specific trails, rocks, mud, sand etc for a 4x4). As well as making them look better in my eyes.
Luckily for me, improving a 4x4's function very often improves its appearance (to me).

So in your case, invest is just a fancy word for spent.
plance1 wrote: New wheels are too big.
Yah, I think so too, but on the flip side, the whole damn car is too big, so proportionately it's okay. Needs more sidewall, anyway.
On the flip side, it's not my car, so not my problem either.
There's less than an inch difference in sidewall between those and the stockers. And they are only +1s from the size of the performance wheels on the 2010 version of that chassis.
Proportionally I think they are just right and make the car look tough as hell:
I love how you can now google search for nearly any sporty car lowered on wide, low offset wheels, by typing:
insert car name + stance

Wow, that really works

I know what i'm doing with the rest of my night... the thing that gets me about that taurus- why go from 5x108 to 5x120? That's a nightmare of an adapter... and it's...well... a taurus.

You meant to say "...and it's...well... NOT a Taurus wagon!
Now THAT would be cool!
