Shortly after I bought my RX-7, I realized I needed to replace the front bearings. When I took the hubs off today to inspect the spindles, I saw they were pretty trashed. Not only that, rust spots were also beginning to form on the steering knuckles (which the spindles are integral to).

Last December, I bought some new-ish hub assemblies off of eBay for $50 to replace just the bad bearings and thought I made a mistake doing that instead of just getting new bearings. Turns out they have decent steering knuckles attached to them too.

I'm going to repack the bearings in the new hubs and swap out the old steering knuckles for the new ones. While I'm down there, I'm also going to add new Brembo rotors and Hawk pads. I've never done "front-end" work before. What else should I do or look for while I'm replacing the steering knuckles? There isn't any steering slop as far as I can tell, so should I replace the ball joints and tie-rod ends anyways?

If they are tight, full of grease and the boots are good reuse them. If the boots are split, Energy Suspension makes some universal urethane jobbies that work pretty well.

Thanks for the tip on those Energy Suspension boots. Way cheaper than new ball joints/tie-rod ends.
