With my local regions autox site no longer being an option I'm thinking about making the jump to a track day.  It's something I've been planning for a while.  I used a 4 point harness for autox which was good enough for that.  But that's in a basically zero risk of crashing setting.  I won't be using that setup for track days.

This brings me to my current dilemma.  The current stock belts rely on a inertia lock.  A good hard stop will lock them.  I'd like to have them locked to help hold me in on track.  Would it be an ok idea for a quick stab of the brakes before I go out to get them to lock.  Then move my sat forward a few clicks?  I'd much rather have a setup that locks with a good pull.  But this is what I'm currently stuck with.

They should go into ratchet mode if you buckle then pull them all the way out to the stop and then let it retract.

I've tried most of the typical tricks to get it to lock.  But they don't work.

Mine lock on a reasonably hard stop.   FiST

That's what I do sometimes. Move the seat back a click or 2, lock the belt, then move the sat back up to my normal position. Still find myself giving the belt a tug on the straights every now and then if it unlocks. My C4 Vette had a manual cinch button that was great for this.

As your name implies, are we talking about a 1979 RX-7?  My 82 Datsun is from a similar era, and it has inertia belts.  I think the mechanism is a pendulum... you have to be facing down-hill or decelerating for them to lock.  Once you're not, they unlock.

I should say Had inertia belts.  This fall I replaced them with non-retractable 3-point belts.  I don't like the brand I got from Wesco, and that's only because the design of the car makes the adjustment mechansim (on the pillar) too hard to reach.  You have to get in and out of the car a dozen times to fiddle with it.  I've seen other brands where the pillar is fixed and the adjustment is on your chest - this might work - and I'm also considering going back to retractable belts, if I can find any that will tuck nicely in the stock mounts.

He has a Neon. I don't even think he has the RX7 anymore cheeky (maybe this year he'll finally bring it out again if I ride him hard enough)

By the way- MCSCC is having a HSAX at the Mile in August...

Its a a first gen neon.  They are a pendulum type.  But once its locked and your body is type uo against it, itll stay locked untill the preasure is off.  Ive looked into mounting some out a of 2nd gen neon which lock with a good pull.  I still may go that route, but Id rather use the ones that were designed and crash tested in the car.

I use the free CG lock that comes with baby seats, if it's safe enough for a baby it's safe enough for me.  There is always one tucked between the seat bottom and bolster in the Mustang.  They are a little bit of a pain to get adjusted and takes some muscle to jam the latch in but they do hold.

Another option is to use the lap belt portion of a harness along with the stock belts.

I have the cglock on my passenger seat in the mustang.  Works great.  Have you looked into shroth belts?  They have some that clip into existing hardware.  I have those for me in the mustang.  I flipping love them!
