Probably up to a year for cranks on engine builds I have done and for people living in the north, taking the battery out of the summer toy car is a ritual.
On abandoned projects, I reckon the cranks can be around for many years before use. We have seen the adds: "All parts machined and ready for assembly". 20 years ago.
