IIRC, the 300/6 is a tall deck/stroked 250...

300/6+ Clevland head+ turbo= Now THAT is what I want to drop into a 70's Lincoln

I love straight sixes, but I'm always shocked by their weight. The last time I had a Jeep 4.0 (admittedly, never meant to be a lightweight) on the cheap, borrowed engine stand, I was afraid it was going to fall onto it's water pump. You realize how far that weight is spread out.

Woody...for me, in your photo, the oil pan (laying on the floor) is the most striking visual cue to the engine's length.

Looong!

The 300 and 240 are the 'big block' ford inline sixes.

The 250 has a v8 transmission bolt pattern, but is otherwise a taller deck 'small block' ford inline.

The 144/170/200 are the basis for the 250.

The one with the hole rusted through the side, or the one that I had to replace it with, a week after I had installed the engine?

I didnt really realize it until this thread, but im with everyone.. pretty much ALL straight 6's are great!!

Just plopped down another 4.0 jeep motor on my carport today

Volvo B6294T

Im surprised this got a mention, i was thinking id be the first.. but dont leave out the non turbo motor. Its great to drive and it's pretty amazing what it can accomplish in a big 'ol S80 with 'only' 190hp.

I disagree. My wife's jeep had a 4.0 and it was crap. Maybe it was one bad experience???? I dunno.

I also had a 300 ford with a 4 speed out of an old van. It was a neat engine but I had a hard time selling it... didn't seem like others had enough creativity to see it as a cool hot rod engine...

Here's a crappy picture...

Most of them with single carburetors ran like crap from the fuel separation.

It'd be nice if all sixes had, y'know, SEVEN main bearings. Only thing keeping me from thinking the Slant Six is pretty cool.

And then there are the crank whip problems.
