Toyota 1FZ-FE. Makes the 2jz look like a toddler.
4.5 litres of straight six fury. 212hp and 275tq.
But that's only half the story. It quite possibly likes boost even more than a 2jz. LOTS of 1000+whp Land Cruisers running around.
(Yes, i'm serious. There's videos.)

Hond CBX was four stroke. Unless there's some other Honda I'm not aware of that you're referring to. I have also heard that they sound really great but are painful to get running sweetly (syncing the carbs properly and then dealing with the ignition I guess).
As for which inline-six I would like to play with, I'd probably pick the MoPar /6, but it really depends on what car this is going into and what the budget is like. I believe a lightly turbocharged 225 with a ton of time spent working the head over and then MS&Spark setup to control it all would be great fun in a Valiant or Barracuda. Especially backed by a manual trans w/ overdrive. Although I miss the pushbutton controlled auto in my first car so that could be an option as well.
In reply to pres589: I guess I didn't come across clearly. Yes, I know the Honda was a 4 stroke. Did not hear about the carb problems.
I was joking about the chain saw engines, although it would be interesting.
In looking over the responses, if there's the room in whatever you're going to put it in, a 4.0 or stroker Jeep 6 is probably the cheapest way to go, and they DO last forever. Add a cam, and you've got reliability and power. Although the British in me says a 4.2L jag with triple DCOE carbs.
Make it an early Barracuda; nice body styling.
s50/s52 for sure.
Reliable, great powerband, fairly powerful, efficient, super easy to work on and maintain, parts are pretty cheap for them.
I started this thread because there's an Austin-Healey kit for sale locally, for only $3K. It's set up for a SBC and autotragic, but I was wondering about what to put in it other than a V8. To be remotely "authentic" it would need to be an OHV six, but I wouldn't be that concerned. Any six ,OHV or OHC would be enough grunt and would make the appropriate noises. It would all come down to what you could find, and what amount of money you felt like spending. Since it's all just daydreaming,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
From memory, the vintage modified guys used to like a 230 Chev bored to take 4" pistons (327?). That would make a cool vintage motor. I know for sure they make all the right sounds

Sayst he cruiser now gets 21-22mpg which is within the range that the cummins swapped fj80's get... HA! edit: dude with fj80 used a 3500 not 4200.The masterplan for my Land Crusher is the 4200 I6. Do you have the link to that guy's swap?

DeadSkunk wrote: If you were going to build a car and wanted to use a straight 6, which one would you use? Availability, parts supply, weight would all be factors to consider. I've been thinking about big Healeys, that's why I ask.
Yeah, I been thinking on a big Healey also. Like "How the heck does it go back together after all this time?"
The engine on these things is sweet. Makes a sublime sound as it rolls down the highway. As a Hot Rodder at heart, I would love to shove a Supra engine in this thing, but it is going back stock.
I'm going to cast another vote for the M50/S50 crowd... but anything every made... I'd have to say the 2jz is pretty damn indestructible

That timing belt looks a lot easier than it was in my mom's S80 this weekend..
But man, do i like that motor. I have yet to drive one of the turbo ones but id really like to.
In reply to DeadSkunk: How about a obsure 4 cylinder that uses a 460 Ford head and aluminum block and a chevy bellhousing. I think there 225 or 250 cu in.
DeadSkunk wrote: NOHOME, I take it you have a Healey project lying aroud?
I have too many LBC projects; 2 BGTs a Bugeye, and the aforepictured Healey.
The Healey is actually on the downhill slope. The undergarments are all painted and it should be a runner by spring, then off to final paint.
If you like pictures of Healey projects, here is the rest of them so far.

Also known as a Kiekhaefer motor after the inventer, if that answer is correct.
On an unlimited budget? Try a Falconer I-6 Falconer 5 Liter Straight 6

If budget was unlimited, I'd go with the turbo 4.0 I6 from the Aussie Falcon XR6.
With my budget I'd probably go with a 7M-GE or -GTE. Not quite the glory and spectacle of the 2JZ, but considerably cheaper, can still be made to create plenty of power, and available in just about every junkyard I've ever been in.
