So I want to refinish a set of clear coated aluminum wheels. The clear has failed allowing oxidation. There are also painted areas which are in perfect condition.

So how can I strip the clear, and not hurt the aluminum and paint? Any good tips for this?

AIRCRAFT PAINT REMOVER. The brush on full strength stuff, not that aerosol version for girly men

^He said "not hurt the paint" which I think it a bad idea...just strip it all off and repaint.

There's no chemical that will take the clear off and not hurt the paint. Selectively wet sanding will do it.

citra-strip the areas at least 3" from the painted areas, then wet-sand away.
