I know that there are people on this board who have a penchant for stuffing big V8s in small places . . . so would a trio of early RX7s at a challenge friendly price be of interest to people here if they were in Texas?

I'm supposed to "rescue" 3 from a friends back lot but am not sure it's worth my effort since I don't really have a need for them myself.

I know the standard answer is MIATA!, wait, I mean DO IT! but it's an awful lot of work to pick up and store plus somehow apportioning them out fairly and equitably all the while dodging bullets from the wife and the neighbors for having more non-operable cars lying around.

I know it's almost insane to consider asking advice from this group, but I really can't afford to have extra cars hanging around my place for long right now. I've never tried selling something thru the marketplace here, especially something like this with such a limited appeal to the world at large, so I thought I'd ask the inmates of this august institution prior to making the plunge.

Is this something that I can get rid of quickly?

I'm going to assume FB, and i'm also going to assume relatively rust free being Texas. That being said, I say go for it. There are enough people like me that would KILL for a cheap FB chassis. Were I in Texas, I'd have already rented a truck and a trailer and gone for them already.

1 first gen and 2 2nd gens. One of the 2nd gens is a Vert.

If they were my cars or they were close I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I'm really only helping a friend out and it's a really long drive x 3 just to get them.

i haven't even personally seen them yet.

Hrm..... seeing the vehicles will go a long way to determining value... I don't suppose you can get pics? That being said, a pair of FC's makes the deal even more attractive. They'd probably be worth rescuing if not for building, for parts alone.

If there's interest the value thing will take care of itself. They are worth what they are worth and not a penny more. As I said, it's more of a helping a friend out more than anything.

If I can determine that I won't be stuck with them for a long period of time then we can figure out a fair value that will move them quickly.

My first thought was to part them out for Locosts, but that has the downside of hulks laying around for a period of time plus the effort to strip and then the inevitable trip to the scrap yard with the remains. Not all that attractive a scenario unless there was enough money into it to make Christmas better. I'm not really into it for the $$$ - unless there's a LOT of money involved.

As far as getting the cars, I'd say go for it. But as far as stuffing V8s into them, I would think very carefully before doing that.

There are plenty of rotary enthusiasts around, but many of them won't want to touch the cars if they are no longer "rotaries".

Even if they all had blown motors, simply cleaning the cars up and posting them for sale should turn a decent profit. Good luck, whatever course you decide on. :)

Cleaning them up and sitting on them isn't an option. Neither my wife nor my neighbors would allow that. Plus any time I spend on these is time away from my real projects.

Money's not really the motivation behind the movement of the RX7s. Well, unless there were somehow very large amounts of money. It's more to help out a friend so it has to be a quick and dirty deal. That's why I was posting BEFORE I told him I'd get involved.

Will the cars come with titles? If yes then I say go for it. If no then I wouldn't bother considering your situation.

Where in Texas are they? I'm in College Station, and I'm an RX7 guy.

What are the chances the FC non-vert isn't spoken for? I've got a buddy who may be interested. Regardless, let me know if you need any help with this deal.

Nice, v-8 in a sprite, talk about power to weight ratio. I wouldn't want to hit a deer in it though.

True. Because they would be worth too much for rotary fans to buy them. My car with the V8 was worth dounble what it normally would have been as a rotary car, even thought it cost me about the same to convert it as it would have to rebuild the rotary.

Wouldn't want to hit a deer in ANY sprite (or Miata, or MGB, or...). So might as well have a Hemi in it. Considering that car's been together since '69 with no accidents, I'd say it's been pretty good at avoiding deer.

Seriously, the arguments some people come up with amaze me.

man, I'd trade a running MGB convert for the FC convert... if it weren't so far away.

Cars are in North Texas, close to Fort Worth. 2 out of the 3 have titles.

None are spoken for at this time as I wasn't really trying to do more than see if it was worth getting involved. I'm thinking it's not worth my effort, but I'll let him know so maybe he'll decide to do something on his own.

Here's a little more detailed info

1) is a white 1st Gen 79 base model with a live axle and good interior, front suspension, but no engine. 4 lug wheels and 5 speed manual.

2) is a red 2nd Gen with no title. It has an IRS and we think 4 lugs. Interior is so-so but good front suspension and has a 5 speed manual. I don't think it has an LSD

3) is a red 2nd gen 5th series (?) convertible. It has an IRS and 5 lug. Interior is pretty good. It has a 5 speed manual and an LSD (we think). Supposedly the Vert shared suspension and a few other bits with the turbo model. The engine is smoky but "ran when parked"

I just saw Chris V's post about the MGB. Would it be running good enough to go back and forth from work? Or could it be made that good relatively easy? That he might be interested in.

If I decide to help him out - he needs the money and this is his only collateral, then I'll update this thread with a link to the FS section.

You might want to post them in classifieds over on the DFW Miata Board.

Some RX 7 geeks have been known to post there. One of the guys even has a shop in Fort Worth.
