IT's well known that Porsche options can add up quickly, but check this out.

2002 Boxster S. Base price was $51,600, but with options some one paid...wait for it....sit down now.....get a stiff drink...$92,285! Yes, someone added over 78% to the base price for a Boxster! Nice car, but come on.
THis is the breakdown
OPTIONS
Boxster S Base Price: $51,600
Rain Forest Green Metallic $825
Natural Brown Leather Interior $3990
Comfort Package $2100
Porsche Stability Management (PSM) $1230
Self Dimming Mirrors with Rain Sensors $695
US Emissions $000
Tiptronic S $3210
Heated Front Seat Package $415
Sport Touring Package $3135
Xenon Headlight Package $1080
Sport Exhaust System $1695
18" Sport Classic Wheels/Tires $2690
Porsche Comm. Mgmt. Dev. Carpeting $3540
Wheel Caps with Colored Crests $175
Aerokit $6290
Large Dark Burr Maple Package $4395
Speedster Rear Hump $1480
Center Console Painted Exterior Color $725
3 Spoke Steering Wheel Dark Wood with Leather $1520
Dark Wood with Alum Tip E Brake Handle $730
Destination: $765
Total MSRP $92,285
I think my favorite may have been $725 to paint the center console the exterior color!!!! So the paid Porsche $725 to rice up a perfectly nice car and make it look like E36 M3!
- Aerokit $6290
- Large Dark Burr Maple Package $4395
- 3 Spoke Steering Wheel Dark Wood with Leather $1520
- Dark Wood with Alum Tip E Brake Handle $730
These are the ones that stand out to me as being especially stupid. $6290 for an aero kit!?!? $730 for a different handle on the handbrake lever!?!? Personally the leather interior seems worst to me because I'd consider it a negative, but at least you can see where the money's going.
What is "Porsche Comm. Mgmt. Dev. Carpeting" for $3540? Carpeting like the management has?
Porsche Communications Management Device carpeting? Does it have foot buttons for the in-dash bluetooth or something?

Imagine the price of a 911 Turbo with those same options...
I remember having similar thoughts when looking at the sticker of a Cayman S at the auto show a few years ago.
Couple the above with videos like this (NSFW language):

and you start to get the picture that, well, Porsche is rather taking advantage of their customers...

Turbos are out of control now. Its easy to get a 911S above 200K if you do paint to order and a few small things.
I was looking at a 2008 turbo yesterday and it was 172K new without taxes or delivery. 37K miles a 72ish K. Even the trunk was lined in suede and the air con vents were wrapped in leather.
i'll just leave this here
this is how porsche (And Mini for that matter) make the majority of their money

Heated 'FRONT' seat package $415. Are there other seats?
What about 'Market Adjustement?'

Sounds like a typical Volkswagen to me.
I prefer the boxster/cayman to the 911 but WTF man. If you are spending 100K almost, I am sure that you could get a nice 911 4S Cab in 2002 for that much.
