I'm going to be in Germany to visit the AMG factory in April. My friend and I want to do some laps at the 'ring one day, but what else would you say are key highlights to hit while we are there?

I love Stuttgart! In fact I came very close to staying there long ago.
How long will you be there? There is a ton of stuff to take in. Daimler museum, Porsche museum, art museums, etc. what are you interested in?
A stroll down Königstrabße is nice- lots of stores and people. If you can find a place to eat that serves Scwabenbräu beer I'd strongly recommend that- especially the Schwabenbräu Urtyp. It's phenomenal and I don't think you will ever see it here.
If you pass by the MAHLE world HQ wave to my old boss for me- lol!

Thanks! We will be there Wednesday Morning and leaving Sunday. The AMG tour looks like it's Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. I was thinking about driving to the 'ring on Thursday. I know that there is a Porsche museum in Stuttgart, where we should be staying.
Really open to a lot, but auto specific the most.
The Mercedes Museum is AMAZING. Very large with lots to see (Mercedes also makes buses and Unimogs and trucks).
The Porsche Museum is smaller, but still freaking awesome. So many race cars! And shops where they restore cars.
A little further out, but closer than the 'Ring, is the Sinsheim. It has everything from Ferraris, to trains, to the Concord.
pinchvalve is spot on. I haven't been to Stuttgart since 03 or 04, so the museums probably have more to offer now than I remember.
I wonder if your AMG connections could get you into some behind the scenes areas at Mercedes. When I worked for MAHLE I got to tag along on a "quality issue" in the Mercedes Sindelfingen plant. That was really cool.
I never went to the Sinsheim, but I'm sure it's amazing too.
Yep, ditto to what they said. You will only need ~2 hours for the Porsche museum, but you could spend all day at the Mercedes museum if you want. The Technik museum in Sinsheim is really huge. Its not exactly organized in any particular order, but there's tons of stuff to see and again plan for most of the day. You can also drive to France - its pretty close. Park underground at Place Kleber in Strasbourg and travel on foot. Oh, back in Sindelfingen is Motorworld. I ate there, but never made it inside when they were open. Enjoy some Schonbuch brau!
