So I'm running two mini turbos off a JDM legacy in parallel. I'm planning to reconfigure the turbo system and would like to go to a single unit. I know that there's about a thousand turbocharger options out there, but for this application I value a quick spool over peak HP. Something that would get me in the boost by 3k RPMs with 225 - 250 WHP would be ideal.

One possibility that I wonder about is using a turbo off of a 2.0 Fusion. Same sized motor with a stock power curve right in my wheelhouse. Also, I know that turbocharger design has improved somewhat in recent years, so it'd probably be a superior unit to 10 YO Subaru stuff.

Any thoughts? Any other suggestions?

I was going to say the mistubishi td04 i think comes stock on WRXes and stuff and should be perfect, might even be factory manifolds and stuff.

Then I read about how you want something newer than that.

I run a TD05 16G that meets your specs. I don't know about the Ford. What are you going to do for engine management?

You might have packaging issues with some of the ecoboost turbos, some have were put on a "headifold" head so the turbine housing has an elongated neck, while others have the manifold and turbine housing as one piece.

I'm running megasquirt. Currently the boost really comes on around 3700 RPM, which is higher than I'd like. The reason that I'm entertaining the Borg Warner turbo is how early the power comes on. Of course that's on an engine that's been optimised for it, and dyno charts show that it starts running out of breath about 5500 RPM. then there's that long neck...

EFR 6258, I think is the small one? But I doubt you're wanting to spend that much on the just the turbo + new manifold/etc.

The older Ecoboosts use the Borg Warner K03. Not sure if they've upgraded since.

I was going to mention a BW K03 or K04, didn't they come in the solsitce/sky/cobalt GM applications? That might be the best bet for housing orientation/clocking and ease of packaging

I'd call out front motor sports. They make all the bits you'll need and are really knowledgeable about that specific engine.

Yeah, I'm talking about the new twin-scroll Borg Warner EFR line of turbos. But just the turbo (6258) by itself is north of $1600. Then a manifold, intake, downpipe, etc.

But they are getting insanely early full boost on the 1.8 Miata cars and supposedly have amazing response.
