They say there are no stupid questions, but I have the suspicion this may be one

In the exploded view below, there's the little table in the upper left calling out different part numbers for the bypass hose.

I get that the top number (-'08MY0709)  is indicated for  2008 model year, but does the 0709 refer to the actual production year and month, part of the VIN or what?

Does it mean, model year "2008" manufactured in year 2007 or earlier through September? and the next line item in the table means model year 2008,  MFG in 2007, October and newer?

I'm pretty sure those last 4 digits are for the production year and month with the dash indicating up to or onward - so up to 07/09 vs. 07/10 onward.

Yes, specifically Sept. 07 and older vs. Oct. 07 and newer.  Check the production date in the doorjamb sticker.

 

IIRC most Japanese companies start building for the next model year in August or July so they can make it on the long boat ride to their export markets, so seeing September as a production break mid-year is not uncommon.
