The thread about the turbo Subaru's got my mind going a bit. So I am dreaming up my next project.
Do all the manuals have the same bellhousing? Could a person easily swap between the different manual transmissions?
How much power could the NA 5 speeds take?
How much for the turbo wrx 5 speeds?
How much for the 6 speeds?
Lot of threads on this topic all over the interwebs. I'd suggest you look more at Subaru specific forums but some here have some experience.
I used an early "glass box" WRX 5 speed behind my EG33 (6 cylinder) SVX with 230HP/228TQ and a higher curb weight than a WRX. I didn't beat it at all but did launch at autocross venues plenty of times using sticky street tires and Hoosier R7s. It didn't explode. My non-data data point for you.
As to fitments, my '92 SVX engine matched up to the '02 Trans with the only issue being one starter stud being too large to use the WRX starter. I had a custom step down stud made though I could have more easily opened up the hole in the starter. I went that route to avoid roadside starter mods should the starter fail.
You will also need to understand the clutch release mechanism as the NA cars used a push mechanism whereas the turbo cars (at least early gens) used a pull mechanism.
