I did the timing belts, water pump seals etc on the wife 09 WRX @ 106,000 miles did the turbo at 114,000 now its got a leak I think from the crank seal...

As i recall the belt tentoiner had a hair pin i had to pull out once everything was lined up right. can i use the Alligator on my portopower to compress the tentioner and slip in the pin or must I buy the whole dam kit again just to do the seal?

You can compress the adjuster, just do it slowly.  Too fast, and it may ruin the seals internally.

The tensioners don't take a whole lot to collapse so a Porta Power is probably overkill.

You can use your alligator and a small allen wrench to  hold it while its apart, or you can unbolt the whole tensioner and put in in a bench vice (crank it SLOWLY - like snails pace) or compress it using a press (arbor or hydraulic) or even wedge the tensioner between the frame of the car and your floor jack while a friend pumps and you slip a small allen back in to hold it till you are ready to reassemble.

DSMs use a similar tensioner and I have recompressed probably 100+ of them over the years.  I even have a used "grenade pin" in my small parts drawer for just such a project.

I still have the pin....and the box with all old the parts...

Just swapped out the drives door actuator tonight in freezing cold but 1/2hour I was done.

Thanks, guys!
