Coming home last night from South Jersey, about 120 miles to go,and all my dash/idiot lights lite up. I figure alternator or belt and keep going because #1- I want to get closer to home, #- I'm making great time, and #3- I don't have AAA for towing anymore. Anyways, as the battery was losing juice -and more lights on the dash light up- the tach tanked. Another 40 miles and the speedometer pegged itself beyond 120, then way beyond. I got within 10 miles of home when the battery just couldn't keep up anymore. Turns out the tensioner for the alternator belt decided to go m.i.a. I used some rope and a bungee cord I had in the car to re-tension the belt and after rolling downhill and popping the clutch, it fired and was recharging! I made it home, but while everything else is working right, the speedometer came back to the "at rest" position but won't register any speed. The odometer works fine. The tach is working, all the lights that came on went out...Anyone have any idea what happened? Battery is now fully charged but still no speedometer.

Nevermind....I pulled the gauge cluster today, opened it up and spun the needle back the way it came. That fixed it! Took all of 10 minutes............

That was an awesome on the road fix!

It's amazing the amount of stuff that dies to keep that coil firing the cylinders.
