hey everyone i have issues with 2 legecys right now for ideas...
this is mine
first one 95 wagon 2.2 stick, repalced plugs, o2 sensors, knock senser, wires, and coil, cleaned out the codes. now its still tossing out check engine light and its still reading misfire on cly 3, o2, knock......anyideas on whats up? or how to fix it?
this is moms....
96 wagon with auto, knock sensor and misfire on cly 3,(will check the check engine light over the next couple of days since she just got the sensors done today) replaced stuff, and when you back up and turn hard there is a thump of some type and the mech that worked on is sctching his head, all the bushing are good, the cv joints where also just repalced a couple of weeks ago. it just does the noice backed at a sharp angle?
Try over here, http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=3
Do a fuel and intake system cleaning on Vehicle 1. Don't turn the wheel so sharp on vehicle 2.
First one, maybe a vacuum leak? Second one, didnt it take until the early 2000s for subaru to learn to design an automatic? I seem to remember a suggestion that when test driving an automatic one of that vintage is was suggested to drive in a tight circle and those type of noises mean the tranny was going to fail sooner than later.
Im not sure, my dads legacy had a vaccum leak which caused similar symptoms to the first one, the second was just something i read while researching them before we bought one, and because of it we never looked at any automatic ones.
not so sure... I've got a '95 Impreza (AT) w/ 220k and the only problem with the transmission is the idiocy of the Suby ECU programers that don't let it shift when cold ... grrrrrrrrrr ... kills my gas milage...
p.s. the fluid has been changed every 30k since new...

My roommate's auto '94 does that. It kind of chatters and pops, apparently it's what happens when the clutch packs on the AWD start to bind up.
Yeah, thats what I was thinking of.
Check compression (regarding the misfire codes) and double check to make sure the spark plug wires are installed correctly.
as for the wires, i had old tin over to help and make sure things went well we we did the plugs and wires on mine, will look into doing the feul and air cleaner.
and dont worry to much about the chatter then on the 96 nd tell her to drive different then.
thanks guys.

so did my OLD 86 GL10. at least in that I could turn off the 4wd (it was 4wd not AWD)
I would check the tires as well. it is possible that they have become different enough diameters over time for them to be messing with the differentials.
I believe there is a fuse that you can install in the slushbox Subarus to disable the AWD. I would install the fuse then try backing up with the wheels turned to the lock and see if the problem persists.
