Old GM products are notorious for losing their mirrors, which are glued to the windshield. I'm tired of my mirror falling off every month or so after I re-glue it, and am wondering if anyone has found another option. I'm hoping for something that suction cups on or something, but it needs to have at least manual dimming capability. This is for a box caprice, if that matters. No electronics up there, and no structure to mount a mirror to aside from the windshield. Any ideas? My google-fu is striking out.
Use 60 second epoxy, it won't fall off
Wink 5-panel mirror FTW!
Attach mounting brackets to sunvisor mounting points after tinting top portion of windshield.
Never had much trouble with lights at night due to the way they built the lenses and the wider field of view is so much nicer.
It is the glue you are using not the mirror.
Stop by a glass company and get the "good stuff" or have them glue it on. Should out last the car/windshield.
Also one of the biggest problems I have seen with this is people do not get the metal piece that you glue to the windshield clean nor do they get the glass clean. Another thing is people use crazy glue type adhesives and while they stick initially they are slowly damaged by moisture. This causes it to fail.
I agree with Dean there.. I restuck the mirror on my old 318ti.. after cleaning everything up spotless, it was almost impossible to remove 6 years later when I scrapped the car
Hmm, I'll have to try the glass company thing. I actually don't even have a mirror to glue back on at this point. The last time it fell off, the glass face smacked the shifter on the way down and shattered...
I've tried everything from 60 second epoxy and gorilla glue to the 3M mirror repair glue and JB Weld. Everything I can think of, really, and I get the windshield as clean as I know how. I've tried soap and water, windex, brake cleaner, lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, and acetone on various occasions. No luck, and I'm tired of screwing around with it.
I think you need to get the Wink mirror, looks like you've tried all the right stuff for gluing it in place.
