Need to invest in a 12v tire pump for adjusting tire pressures after offroading or before and during autocrosses. Any suggestions? Brands, sources etc? Thanks!

The best ones I've had were BonAire

If I were going to buy one today it would be this:

(Might be cheaper on Ebay...)

I've had good luck with the direct drive one from harbor freight. When on sale it's usually about $20. It fills relatively quickly and is much quieter than other ones which is nice.

You want this one. Trust me. Its almost universally loved in the offroad world. Cheap and works great.

back in '94 or so, my mom gave me a cheap Craftsman 12 volt compressor for Christmas. i'd hate to think how many tires that thing has filled up over the years, and it still works perfectly. it's noisy and takes forever to fill a tire, but it gets the job done. i keep it in the back of my Camaro in case i have a flat tire- which seems kind of silly now that i think about it, since the cigarette lighter doesn't work in that car...

I've got one that is identical to the link thatsnowinnebago (great movie) listed. I forget the brand name but I bought it local at an O'Reilly's autoparts and paid about $10 more.

It is the only way to go. I use it on my 255/50-17s at the autocross and it is far and away the best unit I've tried. Really.

2 warnings - mine doesn't have a set-and-forget pressure shut off, and you have to clip it to the battery instead of plugging it in. Neither is a problem, but thought you should be aware...

I have a Campbell-Housefield(?) 12V from WalMart. Been using it for 5-6 years. Works good, no complaints. Doesn't overheat like the small ones that come in cars w/o spare tires (like my RX8). Not the quickest but does work. Also has a light built in. Not expensive either.

i have this one from harbor frieght, bought when it went on sale for 54.99 (its on sale right now for 59.99) it will fill up the tires on my xterra in less time than it actually takes to air down to the 25-27psi that i usually run trails at.

I have the smaller Harbor Freight direct drive unit that I got when it went on sale a couple of years ago. Its holding up great and works great, its a lot quieter than those cheap ones from the big box store.

I think Campbell Hausfeld no longer sells cheap-o 12V compressors, which is a bummer because I've had a couple, both of which worked well (for what they cost). My understanding is that they have a fan to keep them from overheating.

I've got a viair knock off for onboard air. It's loud, but puts out 150 psi continuously. Hardwired with a dash switch. I do have a small accumulator tank with a pressure switch and regulator. If I remember it was about $140 for the set up. Will fill a 36" x 12.5 tire in a minute or so.
