Wow--that is fascinating. I'd LOVE to see some pics of that stuff decaying. Incredible that so many one-off, uber hgh-end cars would be left to rot like that.
such a contrast of opulence and neglect.

People who don't have to work for their money / stuff don't tend to value it. The sultan is just a welfare case turned up to 11.
I actually had him on my guest list for my wedding. Had his address and everything, we just got so busy towards the end with the invites and everything else I neglected to make the special one for him. Would have been cool if he sent me one of the fleet of Rolls Royces or maybe a Ferrari or something as a wedding gift. LOL
Oh well.
The cars rotting away rather than selling them to save the embarrassment is just stupid. Do you know how many car guys would KILL for free reign in that place?
Sigh Welcome to 2004 Jalopnik. They are not the Sultan's cars, they are his brothers (Joffre) who bought them by screwing over his countrymen by taking money from the investment fund he was running for the Sultan. He got caught, everything got confiscated, and that's why the cars are rotting.
From the sound of it (and looking at a list of what is supposedly there) there are a few cars that would be worth saving (shelby cobras, etc), but most of the more modern supercars (and hundreds of newer mercedes, etc) would never be useable as cars again if they are in as bad shape as it sounds. Some of them like mclaren f1s, porsche 959s, and that type of thing would still have value even if they were just to look at, but I doubt alot of the others would be worth the trouble to go there, buy one and have it shipped somewhere.

Actually the article is explicit that this guy's visit was 2002. And that they aren't the Sultan's cars. So I'm not sure why they made the title "the sultan of brunei's blah blah."
There are a couple of pics on google with a little digging. One of them shows a Pantera and a Lamborghini Espada rusting into the ground, and the others show rows of bmws, a s class mercedes, etc on their way to being in similar shape..
