I can't count how many jeeps with a 4.0L V-6 I've seen advertised over the years. Not all on Craigslist either - sometimes in the paper in ads from actual car lots.

I guess a V-6 911 isn't too surprising....and it is supper nice to boot.

Actually this guy seems relatively knowledgeable about his 911- a while ago, there was a high end used car broker with a 911 RS America listed on CL. His listing crowed on and on about the rarity of the model, claimed a verified authenticity, and had a corresponding $39K asking price.

The only problems were that it had a full tan leather interior with standard door panels, and a retractable spoiler. Oh, and it was a Tiptronic. I wonder if anyone ever was kind enough to contact the guy and tell him he had a standard C2 with some RS decals on it.

Not really. 1977 is a bit of a mixed bag for 911's.

By '77, they were galvanizing the bodies at the factory, so unless it has had accident damage or a poor quality repaint, rust should be much less of an issue than it would be on an earlier car.

They came with the 2.7, which is generally accepted to be the least reliable 911 engine ever. But the problems were either fixed early or it failed early. With150k on it, someone must have taken care of the issues a long time ago. This car may have a lot of fun miles left in it.

Of course, in 1978, the 911SC came along, with its much better 3.0. They had a few issues as well, which in all likely hood have also been addressed by previous owners at this point. But $8500 can probably get you a decent SC if you shop carefully.

That is a good (but not great) price for a decent 150k driver. The SC is a significantly better car and they can be had for under $10k in really nice shape.

I've always heard that you're going to spend $20k to get a nice reliable 911...either spend it up front or over time fixing up a cheaper car.

No idea if there is any merit to that..haven't owned a Porsche (yet).

It also has the narrow body which is kind of cool. I know everyone likes the big hips, but this is different. If the car is as nice as advertised, I'd consider the price to be in the ballpark.
