I have a question; I own a 1991 Isuzu Impulse RS 1.6L turbo AWD

I bought the car in a very sad state, all of the struts are blown from the cut coilover springs that were being used...

I am in current need of new struts and coilovers, but do not have really anything quality available through the aftermarket... I take that back KYB GR2s are available but only for the fwd version of my car so I would have to modify the rear set to fit, I am not really a big fan of the Gr2 struts because of the under dampened they are...

another option is to buy Koni 8611s universal strut inserts and fit them into my strut bodies hoping that they would work for around $1k

There was a company building custom coilovers for the car but had many many customer related issues and is now no longer in business...

True Choice Koni Racing Services will build me a custom set of coilovers for $2200

Toyota MR2 strut inserts do work in the rear of the car but the fronts are too long... but I am also worried that the struts are valved for a 2200lb car instead of the 2700lb my car weighs in at...

I would like to keep cost to lower than $500, I want to track the car and also do some autocross with it...

I guess my question is what other options do I have out there??? Raceland Coilovers build a Subaru WRX/STi coilover that I have been looking at for to modify to fit my car and is $388

I am in desperate need to figure out something, I really do not mind welding or modifying if I need to, I am just running out of patience with this one...

It's my non-professional understanding that shock valving is more related to spring rate than vehicle weight.

It's pretty hard to get Koni's for anything for five bills. However, I always think Koni's are the best choice as far as value goes. There are more expensive shocks, but the next step up is usually a really big step. Does Koni not list a sport shock for your car? Try calling the custom shop in KY and see what they suggest.

I have always thought that valving specific to a car's weight will allow more variety of spring weights...

I know that the Toyota All-Trac Celicas run Tokico strut inserts from a Toyota Mr2 which has a heavier production weight than compared to my car...

I was thinking about running Tokico HP strut inserts from a 1988 Toyota MR2... I will have to build custom strut housing but I think that it will be the best way to go...

And I forgot to add for those who do not know about a 1991 Isuzu Impulse...

It is a All-Wheel Drive, 1.6L turbo, 160hp, 150ft. lbs. torque...

Isuzu brought 800 of these cars into the United States and Canada, there are about 400 left...

So Aftermarket is non existant, unless you want to pay way too much money for Funny Factory or Aquarius Coilovers...

So any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
