Hey all,

As usual, I'd rather get info from folks here than searching the model-specific forum for this...

I've got this '90 323. It's my daily driver (~50 miles per day) and the thing is just pretty much getting worn out. I think I should go ahead and replace the struts and I think I recall that there is an SVT setup for the Zx2 or something that is the hot ticket...and cheap to boot.

Can anyone tell me specifics and also point me toward a good source?

I'm not looking for the pricetag of a performance strut...but if I remember right, this is a good upgrade and cheaper than most parts-store struts.

Thanks,
Clem

There was no SVT Zx2. Maybe its the SR you're thinking of.

These guys have the parts you want: http://zxtuner.com/

Thanks...I was just rattling off numbers and letters willy-nilly.

I think I was thinking Ford's performance parts division had a "trunk kit" or such for a focus or an escort zx2 on the cheap.

Anyway, There's something that fits this chassis, but I'm not sure what to source it for (because it's not something I'll order specifically for a 323, I think) and what, if any, modifications are necessary.

But yeah...I'll check that out, thanks!

The SR struts are no longer available but you may be able to find some on E-Bay or one of the ZX2 sites.

Well...shucks.

Any other recommendations for a budget strut setup will be considered.

Thanks!

Koni makes "red" inserts for the MX3; those should work.

Knowing Clem those are too pricey

I think the GR2s shouldn't run you more than $200 shipped off of Ebay. Don't know how great they are, though.

They are pretty berkeleying far from great.

If you lurk, you can still get the ZX2 S/R struts used. I've seen a few sets...but IIRC, you'll pay almost as much as they cost new.

BC Racing makes a coil-over kit for the BG-chassis 323. They run $1250. Application list: http://www.bcracing-na.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/BC_RACING_APPLICATION_LIST.pdf

The Koni Red inserts for the MX-3 are probably the way to go.

Its a shame. I would have pulled the performance parts off the Zx2 before I sold her.

Put a front upper sway bar on her. they do wonders and can be dabbed up easily.

Keep in mind, this is for a daily driver. I won't be autocrossing this car, just driving to and from work and around town for groceries and such. Are the GR2s particularly bad (like, should I just get a house-brand strut from the auto parts store) or are you saying they're not in line with Konis for high-performance (autocross, track day, rallycross) type use?

Thanks!
Clem

the zx2 sr struts were tokicos set up in a cartridge setup the tokico blues have the exact same valveing and are valved specifically to match up with an eibach prokit. mods to fit zx2 struts are either upper front mounts and bearings from a zx2 or dremel out the oem bearings about i think its 1 or 2 mm to fit the new struts properly.

If you can get Tokico Blues for similar money to the KYBs, get the Blues.
