What's up party people! Longtime lurker, first time poster. I've always been interested in cars much to the detriment of my bank account. Unfortunately I could not get out and play because I owned a very small business and had to work nights and weekends. 2017 is my year though. The small business is gone and my schedule is wide open. Plus, I have $2017 burning a hole in my pocket.
I have a few projects going now, but I really want to build a cheap, zero berks givin racecar. I feel like in these kinds of situations, the more the merrier. Here's what I bring to the table: a shop with all the good tools already lost, stolen, or left outside; a lift that usually works, a mini fridge that keeps drinks at a frosty 70*, and a field full of challenge ready cars.

You wanna enter the truck class? There's a rabbit truck ($500), 2 x 58 chevy 3500s ($400/$350), a datsun 620 ($600), and a few cars we can perform poorly done conversions on. Or we could just stick the biggest engine we can find into the lightest body. I am wide open to ideas and am suffering from analysis paralysis. Every day I find something on craigslist that would look great sitting on jack stands and leaking fluids everywhere.
Let's turn money into noise!
My God... It is the promise land.
I see a TR7 winking in one of those pics
Step 1: Combine the nicest body parts from the 58 Chevy trucks into the best version of a truck that they can be.
Step 2: Install on top of the full chassis of that black, cat-eyed chevy truck
Step 3: part out/scrap the remainder
Step 4: profit/fun/burnouts
Door 2: IF that's an extended cab Ranger that I see (gold ans black on the right in pic #2), and IF said Ranger has a 3.0 engine, combine it with the engine from the white SHO for sweet yamaha designed exhaust note.
Door #3:
SHO powertrain in the bed of that Datsun truck

Yeah, I got super lucky. The lady had it listed on CL as "1977 $100". She didn't have any pictures, just a phone number. I thought for sure it was one of those scams people play on other people to make the phone ring all day. I left a voice mail and sent a text just in case it was real.
She texted me back at five when she got off of work. She gave me directions to a bad part of town and told me to bring "small bills". I thought for sure I was going to get robbed. Instead I got a complete TR7 with title.
I kinda want to restomod it into a Lancia Stratos homage. The engine doesn't run ATM and I don't really want to spend a lot of time and money on a turd anyway so I was thinking SHO swap or maybe Buick V6.

Those are pretty good doors! I've been thinking of door #1 for awhile especially since the cat eye truck is on bags. The trouble is, that truck is a coworkers but he has been awol for about a year. I don't know what I can do to legally/ethically claim it.
As far as engines in beds go, I just feel like that is kind of a waste of a truck. Even if it is a mini truck. I'd rather make a mid engined aspire or geo or something that sucks already. There is a 1974 roadkill civic that is on CL for $500.
Argghhhh so much analysis paralysis....
That Nova would be a good basis for a redo-mod---- if it's as clean as it looks.

Long story on that Nova... it's SWMBO's. I used to really hate it. It was a 4 door, 305, door dinged shut box. It never got driven and always had problems from sitting. It would brake everytime she drove it. And that was somehow my fault.... now I just get in front of it. I made her put 4 new tires on it, that helped a lot. I Put a paint job on it and polished the chrome... now I look at it everyday and am really starting to come around on it.
I put a rpm performer and a Holly on it one year for Christmas. She was not as amused as I was!
It's at the shop now because we think it has 350,000 miles on it and it wore a cam lobe totally flat. Just got done putting a stock cam back in.

My shop is in the minuscule town of Forest Hill. It's off of I20 between 820 and I35w. We just got a Shipley's Donuts though.
Frantically starts searching for job opportunities in Dallas.
In reply to Pattyo:
Oh wow! I work up in Fort Worth at Jaguar, and reside off of Lamar and Collins in Arlington! I use to drive past Forest Hill everyday on my way to Cresson!
How funny, I was just by there at the police station.
You thinking about a planning/beer drinking/ solving world's problems session?
I would LOVE to be a part of this, but I live all the way over in Sachse. Still, we should do it.
I'm reasonably certain I bought my Amazon from you. Small world!
You would be my new best friend I you were near me.
I want to know what the red sports car thing I saw is.

I hope the fuzz weren't too hard on you, they love to wait at the bottom of the hill that the school zone is in with radar gun, even during summer break.

Everybody in this forum seems pretty cool so it would be fun if we could all meet up but I guess that's what the challeng is for....
Not trying to be a jerk but I would say there are four red sports cars: 1971 MK1 Datsun 240z, 1988 Fiero, 1995 Mustang with SVO wheels, and a 1985 Mk2 Supra automatic
