I attached some 2x4s to the garage floor at the spot that I did not want her to pass. Worked like a charm since it was a hardish stop. The only problem with this is if she shifted into park while on the 2x4 and the car rolls back slightly after releasing the brake. It was difficult to shift out of park the next day b/c the gears were a bit jammed from rolling back off the 2x4.

Griot's Garage has some interesting products for this as well:

Tell her to hang up before she pushes the garage door opener button.

I hung a tennis ball and placed it so the top left corner of the windshield is "the target". It works.

I also back in on the left side of a 2 car garage and damn near park against the wall (to make room for bikes and stuff on the opposite side). I laid a 2x6 flat on the floor and use it like the rails at a car wash. That works too.

I use a bright neon orange ping pong ball on a string. Self tapping screw into the ping pong ball is the anchor point for the string and you can hold it out of the way with a magnet located on the end of the garage door track... ping pong ball rests on the windshield right above the centerline of the gauge cluster when in nominal parking position.

You guys must be old and blind to need to use tennis balls...

From the other side of the coin: My wife's daily goes in the garage, while mine are in the driveway. She is way, way better at parking her car than I am.

Good luck. My wife was insulted by the tennis ball hanging off of the ceiling, but somehow managed to get her S40 sideways in a 2 bay garage with a supporting column separating the two bays. She never hit anything, but it took me 20 minutes to get the thing out without damage. I would have liked to see how she did it.

Were there skidmarks where she spun it in sideways around the post?

Tell her to hang up any time the ignition is on.

It's for me sweetie, lets me park with good access when I work on things here. Oh, it does line up when you park too? Hadn't thought of that! Let's just keep it in place for the times I drive into the garage, ok?

Easy solution.

Remember the old hoses that used to run across the entry to gas pumps? They ran low pressure air through them and when the tires crossed them it momentarily sealed them and caused a bell to ring so the guy back in the shop knew he had a customer.

Do the same thing across the space she parks in and hook it to a set of assertive air horns so it warns her when she is far enough in. Might result in her hitting the accelerator (or you) mind you.

As far as lateral car location it wouldn't help, mind you.
