i thought this would be a simple question for the summitt folks.... but they punted. so i figured i'd ask here since someone is bound to have done this already! i am trying to mount a 97 t-56 transmission behind a 1989 vintage V8. the manual transmission in the 89 v8 was a 10 inch flywheel and from catalogue shopping it looks like the t-56 transmission for the lt-1 had an 11 inch flywheel. will an lt-1 flywheel bolt up to a 89 vintage crank without any balance or alignment issues? i'd try a junkyard piece, but i cant seem to find one and i'd like to know if it will fit before i shell out the money for a new 11 inch flywheel. also, are there any modifications needed to the input shaft or chrankshaft to accomodate the bushing? thanks in advance! mike

yes the lt1 flywheel is a direct fit to the 1989 1 piece rear main seal engine, crank is the same thing. there should be nothing needed for the pilot bushing other than to install it, i had no issues putting an engine from an auto truck in my 90 5 speed one.

Its a "bolt-in" meaning all the parts will work. Just get a flywheel and clutch from an LT1. Then you have several options for hydraulics. Most use the stock F-body pieces, but Mcleod and others have aftermarket solutions. I think there is also someone who makes manual clutches for T56s but not sure
