I would like to help a friend of mine get out of their current vehicle and into something smaller and more affordable. It just so happens to be that the Tacoma they want to get out of should be something very easy to sell and I'd like to figure out what it is worth and if I should try to go private party since they're so desirable. Tacomas and Cummins powered Dodges don't depreciate very much and I'm not terribly familiar with what this one might be worth. I see dealers selling similar higher mile trucks for about $24-25k but I know I won't get that. Maybe post it for $24k and accept $22-23k?
2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5
- 3.5L V6, 4x4, 80k
- Hitch, Tonneau cover, side steps
- Average condition

Pure wholesale is $22-23...I don't think $24,000 is out of the question at all.
I wouldn't be surprised if that sold for $26-27k
tacos hole their value like no other truck, for very good reason.
So what is the millage on that truck?
I was stunned at what my friend paid for a used 2015 in 2018, and equally shocked at what the Toyota dealer gave me to trade in my 186k 2005.
And I've recently learned that Caravan is going over book on trade ins. You don’t even need to buy from them. It’s worth investigating.
I just helped a family member sell their 2016 Tacoma Limited 4x4 with 48k miles. It brought $27,500 and sold to another family member. A family friend that is a used car dealer said it probably would have brought $24-25k at the dealer auction.

This one has 80,000 miles so far. Just getting broken in, but on the high side for a 2016 I think.
What was sticker when new?

I had to do the front hubs twice on mine. First time was probably around 80-90k and then again around 150. It wasn't a bad job, but the parts cost me a few hundred dollars. There was a guy that I read about on the Tacoma forum that sells complete drop in assemblies on eBay. I think that he was the only one selling them complete, otherwise you need to press new bearings in, and I didn't have a press then.
