So in January I bought a '12 Versa hb so 1st gen. I think right after/at inspection the airbag light came on. Can't remember for sure but I think so. Car passed so I googled a quick fix that lasted a week now only a day or two so that I don't even bother just leaving the light on.
Well come today I got a flyer saying I will die but for free it'll be fixed for me.
I don't believe it's a scam but I can only assume they got my address from the DMV or maybe my insurance company.
A little creepy.
Got one for the RX-8. Don't respond to the flyer, I think it's a third party. Like you mention it's to collect data.
I responded and I got the recalls done but it wasn't completely smooth. I'd just call the dealer.
This the back of the flyer. The front has my address.
I still wonder who they got my address from
DMV. They have been nagging me about my Saab.
Depends on where you live, but many states are allowing use of dmv records for airbag recalls. They are tapping any and every resource they can trying to get them fixed. There is a LOT of pressure on them to do so.
Check your vin on the manufacturer site, or NHTSA.gov and call a dealer directly if you are worried about data theft, but the flier does look legit to me.
But seriously, check for recalls regularly, they happen for a reason. Get them fixed.
Barring some serious off-grid maneuvers, if the government wants to find you, they are gonna find you. You really object to being found and informed that your car could kill you because someone screwed up design or manufacturing it?
I had the driver side done on my Mustang a while back but had been putting off getting the psg done since I usually drive the car alone. Ford got downright desperate with their flyers. I actually got about two per month until I had it done last month. They even sent really unique stuff like a Christmas card with airbag recall reminders in it. Post cards, long letters...they obviously have large financial obligations to get all of the bad airbags out there.
Some manufacturers even have teams roaming parking lots at big sporting events checking vins and leaving notes under wipers.
Yep, it's all "public" record from the DMV.. If you have a car registered, you really don't have any privacy in that respect. That notice looks legit.
The passenger side airbag cover in my Rx-8 cracked after getting the recall done :(
I just got a notice for my wife's 2011 Legacy and it is very obviously straight from subaru (bought new). Back when I had my RX-8 (bought used) it came straight from Mazda and they had to have gotten my info from the DMV.
That is the same one I got. They setup up the appointment (taking information) and when I got there the dealer who they supposedly coordinated with didn't have a clue I was coming.
I'd trash it.
That looks like the note I got from Nissan. The call me pretty much daily to get me to bring in the SpecV. I tell them pretty much daily that its a piece of E36 M3, and I'll bring it in if I ever get it working again.
