I just received a recall notice for the takata inflator on the PS airbag in my '09 civic. Now to find the time to take it in. i wonder if I could get a loaner for a day or two due to my busy schedule?

A girl I know was too scared to drive her Takata-equipped daily driver when the recall news came out so she demanded a loaner until they could fix it. She got a loathsome base Dodge Dart to drive until it was fixed. Be careful what you wish for...
BMW gave me a new X1 to drive while they were working on my 15-year-old M5's Takata airbags. Even let me take it home to Grand Junction and then drove the M5 300 miles to deliver it!
All comes down to the dealership, I suppose. It never hurts to ask. In my case, I scheduled a long time in advance and I was nice to the guy on the phone
Local Honda dealer has been a pain in the posterior on mine. As I understand, I got the driver's side replaced after a year of nagging them. Car was totaled, and today I got a notice for the passenger's side.
Friendly advice: tell them you are scared, and take whatever rental they give you. This will incentivize(sic) them to get a move on. I have two friends who did it this way, and were done in a couple of weeks.
Yeah, my letter said it should take an hour. If I'm off and it's not too cold I won't mind browsing the lot. Maybe take a test drive, as the wife's car is a 230k Accord and we may be looking to replace it soon. Mostly waiting for HR-Vs to be on the used market.

Good plan, but if you do that I will guarantee it will take longer than an hour!
In reply to Brian:
When we got the notice for our Fit the bags were still not available. Honda provided us a loaner for about 5-weeks through Enterprise, and we had a choice of models available. We selected a Veloster(that I autoxed once), then a Cherokee. Unlimited mileage too.
No idea if there's still a backlog/wait for the parts, but I'd be surprised if a loaner vehicle is not still an option if it'll take more than a day to complete.
