We just had our 2005 Mazda MPV smog-tested. Using the ASM 2525 test, whatever that is, the allowed hydrocarbons are 52 parts per million. The van registered 2. Allowed carbon monoxide is 0.29%; the van registered 0.00%. Allowed oxides of nitrogen are 578 parts per million; the van registered 0.
This is our DD, that has almost 100,000 miles on it. It gets oil changes and not much else in the way of care & upkeep. It's seven years old. It has its flaws, but a group of people I will never meet designed the emissions controls really, really well. Take a bow, guys.
Alfadriver... alfadriver... bueller?
I think their machine was broken....
You just said Ford Engineers in the title, I'm not in powertrain, but I'll take my bow anyway.
Thanks

Ditto. If it measures 0 ppm, taint right.

I had nothing to do with this one.
But
Am always happy to take credit! :D :)
Nash & Chandler, I see your point. (I was mostly just focused on taking my "Pass" status and getting my annual sticker renewal.) The printout says the "dilution" for the test was 15.0; possibly that means that when you divide the actual result by 15 it rounds to zero?
(Somebody who knows what he's talking about can jump in here any time....)
There WERE HC and CO amounts registered on the curb idle part of the test: HC 2 ppm (allowable limit 150 ppm) and CO 0.04% (allowable limit 0.70%.) They don't check NO in the curb idle test, apparently.
Still pretty impressive.
That there isn't magic that is exclusive to the Ford/Mazda guys....
My 2001 S-10 Blazer puffs clean like that and it has 130k on the clock. Treated like it owes me money, it too only gets oil changes and little else.
My engine swapped Fiero also ran that clean at its last emissions test (it's now over 25 years old, so just safety inspections from now going forward) -- and all it has going for it emissions-wise are dual cats, O2 sensor and vapor recovery (PCV and charcoal caninster)....no AIR pump!

Damn... I was hoping you were in PA somewhere so I could take my E30 to that shop to get tested...
