I turn in my resignation to NAPA tomorrow morning. I'm going to work for a small, local chain of 3 locations called Cost Less Auto Parts for 50% more money and 100% less nights and weekends. I'm super pumped but super nervous.

Cool! The CLA on 99 in Vancouver is always super friendly and willing to deal with my Fiat addiction, even when they're swamped.
Are you going to be working at a storefront or are you going to be a roving sales guy / manager dude?
Congrats!
I'm considering a transfer to that neck of the woods, might be harassing you in person at some juncture.
Burrito: I will be the full time roving Outside Sales guy for the Kelso location. PM me and I'll give you my contact info.
Good luck! I love the CLAP.
I should have called you when I was looking for unobtanium submersible fuel line.
All the best to ya!
Seems odd to congratulate someone for getting the Clap.
Around here we have a junkyard named King of the Road Auto Parts. With a name like KRAP it has to be good.
Every part you buy from there they mark KRAP with the paint pen.
more money to wrench yourself AND the time to be able to. Welcome to the civilized work environment. We don't have CLAPs here but with that sort of schedule for their employees, I'd buy from them if we did.
Walk into prospective account, hand them your card. "Congrats, you've got the clap.."
Seriously, good on you for getting a better job. Relax, one day at a time. You'll get into a grove after a couple weeks. Drive the Javelin on a few sales calls, should be a good conversation starter.
A decent number of the students coming through the vocational school i teach at to become techs work currently for parts houses and they sure make it seem like it's hard to see any kind of future at the big national chains. Hopefully some of the mom and pop operations have some concept of human dignity and this CLAP is one of them! Congrats on the upgrade!

Stupid question. Did you work at a privately owned NAPA store or a corporate store? I hear there are differences in how the store owners run things versus how corporate does it.

EPA closed them last year...
Congrats on the new position!

KRAP!
Congrats on the new gig. Your co-workers will be envious. Try not to rub it in.
In reply to chandlerGTi:
Sorry to hear KRAP is gone. No surprise, the place was an EPA and OSHA nightmare but those are also the things that made the place great.
Around '00, I had an AW11 MR2 and discovered that KRAP had about 7 of them on hand.
I found that for about $50 I could get tons on small interior parts and switches which I would unload on eBay for about $500.
More time is worth so much, more money on top of it....you made the right call. Congrats and kick ass!
Holy CLAP! Mom and Pop Shop with online inventory! Can you guys open up a spot by me?!

On that note, about 10 years I was at a car auction where they were auctioning off a 70's Cadillac limo formerly owned by "Johnny Paycheck" the guy who famously recorded "Take This Job and Shove It". It was in tatty shape and the "celebrity status" did not impress the bidders. I believe it was a no sale at about $5k.
