So...I have been wanting an auto-x, track, classic-ish, etc car for some time and I just stumbled on this:
http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-autos-et-vehicules-autos-et-camions-Mazda-RX-7-1984-avec-moteur-RX8-W0QQAdIdZ434909061
Translation:
Mazda RX-7 1984 for sale. T-TOP. Very rare and in good condition. With RX8 13B engine with 20 000km. Controled by a Microtech lt10s. wideband, radiator 3 rows in aluminium. Discs brake on 4 wheels. Shocks tokico lowering coils springs, exhaust 2.5'' full length, catless. Mags from a Mustang. More then 20 000$ invested.
It needs a tuning, but is functional.
2000$ firm.
I have zero experience with first gen RX-7's so I am asking the opinion of the more knowledgeable.
Now please help and tell me why I shouldn't buy this because for that price it could even be an almost "no-work" challenge entry. Or is it enough of a screaming deal that I should just buy it even though my Spec-v isn't sold.
Buy it now!!! Montreal is only 6 hours from me or less, and I will buy it if you don't.

you come to this web site to get talked OUT of getting a car ? you really are a new reader
That car is a sunroof model not a T top, no T tops were ever available in a FB RX7
4 lug Mustang wheels are 108 mm, RX7 are 110 mm, beware there is an issue there. Also RX7s use lug bolts instead of studs, so they may be forced in there or the rims drilled out.
Looks like a GSL but I can't be sure from the pics, GSL has the 4 wheel discs and an LSD, they are heavier but those extras make them desirable.
Beware of rust under the storage bins, you can often see this through the rear wheel well, where the upper control arms mount.
Steve
GSL-SEs had a 4x4.5"/114mm bolt circle, the 12A cars had the 4x110. Brakes are bigger on the SEs as well.
If you get it...I have an OE glass moonroof in a box. Its used but in great shape. I would like to not have it any more, and a reasonable amount of money would persuade me.

In reply to wbjones:
I wasn't really expecting to be talked out of it but rather have a comment like: Well the rx-8 never came with a 13b, so it's obviously a hack job... or something like that.
Anyways, with more digging, that car's been for sale for a while. Started at 3500$ and getting lower and lower. And I can't reach the guy...

I'm not a rotatd, but I know a few. I've heard more than once that renesis engines have 13b labels on them.

The engine in an RX-8 is for sure a 13B. Multi-side port exhaust 13B, but a 13B non-the-less. 4-port on the auto models, and 6-port on the manual models. That may have changed at some point to all being 6-port, but for a long time there were different engines between auto, and manual.
