My welding skills would have told me to sell the targa and buy the coupe I really wanted.

Is it wrong that I liked it better before? I want one in poop brown with that stainless steel targa hoop.

I don't get it. It was cooler before, and like people above me have already said, would have been easier to buy a hardtop if that is what he wanted.

Though I gotta hand it to him, its damn impressive.

The factory actually did this with some of the racing cars, since the Targa had strengthened sills and such, and adding a full top made the cars stiffer yet.

Around here the Targa's are the cheapest 911's to get so to build a race car, this might have made the most sense financially.

That conversion is about the coolest thing I've seen in a very long time...I've gotta get me a cheap, ratty Targa to coupe-ify now!

I want a 911 so bad... I just keep telling myself that I can't handle one.

The work looks awesome. While I'm with you guys, I appreciate the kind of work that goes into something like that build.

Targas are plentiful, relatively speaking, compared to coupes. They're also cheaper. Club racers tend to snap up all the coupes.

And, of course, Targas are for Bob Costas.

I did nearly that very thing with my last second-gen MR-2. Found a beautiful yellow T-top, purchased a roof clip...and voila...yellow hardtop. All-told, it was less than $1400. I sold that car in 2002 and its one of the few that I still miss.

I'll second that regarding the 914 with the chin spoiler. Notice it already has a five-lug conversion and Fuchs. Yum!

the 914 did not have a chin spoiler.. that was a replica of the 916 front bumper

you like the 916 front bumper on that 914? Looks kinda gaudy in my opinion...especially with the oil cooler scoop still filled in.

Not really...that was before I knew how to weld and had a good shop do it. Still cheap.
