Ok... Picked it up... All I know is it is very very dirty... Fuel pumps in the trunk.. and some stuff taken apart here and there all over the car...
Oh, good. Some unknown person has been messing with it. I had that kind of fun with my E30 when I first got it.
Anyhow, you simply must build thread this beast. It's always good to have another person on here with a German hole in the road in which to pour money.
LOL...
In fact. I just pushed it off the trailer..
These are the parts I found inside the car... I seem to be missing a fan clutch.. and who knows what else...
But... It does turn over..
Hopefully I will have a minute later to really dig into it..

That Craigslist Los Angeles one seems to have a four spoke steering wheel, so is it a real 740i Sport?
the LWB Sports had the 4 spoke wheel, and ONLY the shadowline and M parallels. No other Sport options, like Sport seats (with the adjustable thigh support), Sport suspension, Steptronic trans, or the good rear gearing.
Occasionally you MAY find a SWB Sport that has all the Sport specific parts and a 4 spoke wheel, for someone that wanted the heated wheel. But I've only seen one like that in the last 6 years.
edit:
Ok, now that I see the pictures, the LA one seems to have the Sport's steptronic trans and Vavona wood trim, and the Sport seats. Looks like it has the cold weather package (judging by the headlight washers) so someone could have ordered it with (or installed later) the heated 4 spoke wheel. Other than that, it looks to be an actual SWB Sport. Good price, and not terrible miles.
Ok...
Many things seem to work... But...
No spark.. and a few weird electrical things.. ( )
As in it claims the key is in the ignition if the door is open..
The trip/fuel econ computer thing does nothing.. No lights nothing..
The aftermarket radio come on.. but doesn't make sound..
and no spark.
Is there some kind of weird dance I need to do to free the car from a security mode or something when hooking up a battery??
just curious, does the pcm (s?) send power to the fuel pump while you're cranking?
Two of the parts in your pile look like crank or cam position sensors. If those have failed you will not get spark.
They were removed for reason unknown to me. But ohm out alright.

This is like a mystery hunt combined with a jigsaw puzzle, you have my attention, please continue...
I'm having fun following this thread. I want to see if someone will be able to successfully figure out this BMW nonsense before getting locked in a padded room for the rest of their life.
If you get it running, I just saw one go at some auto auction on velocity last night (after the 80's rally special) for like $11000 or 12000.
Hehehehe!!!
So with the Crank sensors simply set in place (after I figured out one of them plugs to the engine harness on the top on one side and the bottom on the other )
And a squirt of carb cleaner....
bap bappp.. bbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
For about 3 seconds or so
She had a darn nice smooth idle for only having a mouthful of car cleaner...
Now... Lets see if we can't free up a couple fuel pumps....
Some of the guys on the mercedes forum will run the fuel pump backwards with diesel fuel and it is suppossed to clean a fuel pump out pretty good, but I've never done it myself as I don't need to.
An old pump from a turbo dodge project, a brass Y, and an old coffee can will start it
;)

Video is private, no work for me.
Dang. And I can't seem to fix it from my phone.
So after a couple hours of learning the car (read trying things that didn't work)
It will burn rubber.. These big ole cars move pretty good, really
The trouble I had this evening...
I had one of the shiny new pumps supplying fuel to the return.. I just assumed the two lines next to each other were the supply and the other was the return... Yeah.. I was wrong..
Burnout video as soon as I can get a helper to take one for me...
