My 13 y/o neice loves my big rover.. she wants and covets it.. but I know no teenager would ever be able to afford to put gas in it, let alone pay for the repairs and maintance..

In looking at other cute utes.. the CR-V seems to look the most like a shrunken version of my Disco.. So I am thinking of picking one up in a year or two for her. What says the hive mind on these little utes

My Mom loves her AWD 2004 CR-V. It has around 150,000 miles on it. Until the last 20,000 miles it just needed fluids and brakes. Most recently it needed a new alternator. Last year the starter died an odd slow death by shorting out internally. It averages between 24-26 mpg. Still drives like its new.

My father in law bought a 2003 new, its now driven by my brother in law and it has 205k miles. I have done all the repairs on it since new:

  • serpentine belt and tensioner
  • Radiator fan motor
  • water pump
  • door lock actuator

Other than that, add fuel, change the oil and drive it.

The wife has a 2003 model. Unbelievably good car...uh, SUV. In the 10 years we've had it, the only failure has been the AC compressor. Only on it's second set of tires, and one brake pad change. Mileage is now at 110k. With the rear seats folded it will hold things you simply can't fit in other SUVs. The big, squared off door is a plus here. And it drives nice too. If you've driven a Civic SI of the same period, the steering will feel similar. She averages around 24 to 26mpg, mine is a bit less when I drive it.

Overall, it's by far the best car I've ever owned and would not hesitate to get another.

My mom drives a 2006 cr-v. Extremely useful car that I borrow when I need to haul things. The dashboard bulbs burn out and are a giant pain to replace. SE years may be affected by the Honda auto tragic trans failures. Other than that, a nice car. Oh yeah, you need a special tool to change the headlights because the opening is tiny and hard to reach, a giant pain...wish I had known that before I spent an hour wrestling with it.
