The rear window defrost on Lando the Land Cruiser do not heat up. I confirmed that I have power and ground to the wires that feed the defrost strips in the window. I also used a test light along each of the strips and found that there are multiple areas of discontinuity in each line. It actually appears that the material the grid of lines is made from is degrading.

I know that you can purchase a new grid on a sticker to replace a damaged lines, but that leaves you with two sets of lines on the rear window, which I think will drive me crazy. I also know you can get conductive paint to repair gaps in the lines, but with the amount of damage I would need to rebuild almost the whole grid, and I'm not sure the paint is mentor to do that.

Does anyone have a suggestions?

The answer would appear to be to keep the existing side bars and use a razor to remove the current grid and then use the stickers to lay a new grid.

I tried scraping a bit of one off and the FAQ is correct that some of the red remains visible on the window after removal. That would still leave the issue of two visible grids, however a bit down the FAQ I found this

My defroster has a spacing of 1 1/8 inch, but it appears that you can trim the grid to alter the spacing.  Perfect!

Awesome, because the only other answer I had was to try and find a window with a working defroster lol.

My rear window has 14 lines and is 42 inches wide at the top and 48 inches at the bottom. Let's see.

Hmm, all the 14 line defrosters are too narrow. Well, there is room at the bottom for an extra line.

Dang, those are either too narrow or too wide for my window. Well I guess I could skip the top and bottom lines and use a 12 line defroster.

Perfect, 1212-3747 will work. Wait, you can't order that one with just the defrost grid, only in a kit.

I give up. Looks like a wrecker has a green lift gate locally. Hopefully the defroster works...angry

I was going to try and repair mine but then discovered a new rear window was only $200 installed. I have messed with trying to repair these in the past and decided to just toss money at the problem.  Well worth it.
