Hey, I was wondering what the temperatures would be in the plumbing from the turbo compressor wheel to an inter cooler and then the inter cooler to engine. Say with 10-20psi. Does anyone have any information on this or a ball park estimate?

Depends on a lot of things. Temperature coming into the compressor. The compressor efficiency for the given pressure ratio and flow rate. The design area, and efficiency of the intercooler. Are you just looking for a generic range here or trying to get numbers for a specific application?

Let's say you are running 12 lbs of boost (PR 2.0 or so) and pushing about 22 lb/min airflow (around 200 Hp or so) with an ambient air temp of 70F and a turbo compressor efficiency of 74% and an intercooler efficiency of 70%, then I would say your compressor outlet temp would be about 230F and the temp leaving the intercooler would be about 120F.

That is based on the formulas that can be found all over the internet or in several books.

Just looking for generic information. I am tossing around the idea of making some turbo plumbing from a nylon based material. I would be able to make any size and shape of piping for relatively cheap(?) and the material has a Vicat softening temperature of 163°C which is 325°F so I was just hoping to get a general idea of what range of turbo applications I could use this for. Im not sure how much the plumbing would have to weight so I acutally am not sure of the final price but the material would cost me $0.35/g but I figure I wouldn't need the piping to be too thick if it can handle the heat.

I do suppose metal piping would the cheaper but I dont have a welder and im not sure how I would go about making it. I am pretty sure you have buy pre bent pieces and do a sort of puzzle to make the piping you want..but I am just wondering about this nylon thing, just curiousity

anyone have any additional thoughts?

I've seen PVC pipes for intercooler piping. I wouldn't recommend it, but it seemed to work.

I've also seen intercooler pipes fabbed COMPLETELY out of old cans of Bra-Kleen.

Seriously.

www.siliconeintakes.com has pre-bent stuff, couplers, and clamps all for fair prices. Including the intercooler, i've got $150 or less in my intercooler setup on my car. No welding necessary, just a hacksaw.

I know that the information is out there but it can be well hidden. The bleed air temperature on a Garrett TPE-331 is 438 degrees celsius above ambient temperature. The compression ratio is 20 to 1. This is most likely useless for your application.
