No. In typical interwebs fashion, the trans thing got blown out of proportion. Honda had a 5% failure rate on the transmissions for vehicles with under 100k. The bad is that 5% is double the rate they deem acceptable. The good is that it also means that 95% of the vehicles didn't have a problem (including mine). They also extended the warranty on the trans to 100k to cover those that did fail.
They are hard to find, but you can also get an '04-~'08ish TL with a manual trans. TSX's with a manual are slightly easier to find.
Edit - Sorry, just saw the no manual trans requirement, so ignore that part.
I'm sorry.... I see these cars every day. It's a hell of a lot more than 5% failure rate. TRUST me. What's bad is they look super reliable compared to the MDX trans... my bonus checks LOVE all these problems.
You have a WIDE selection. Are newer Maxima's reliable?
BobZilla,
According to chance, there could be a possibility that you are located in an area where the 5% of failures occur. Thus, you are seeing what seems to be more failures than what is deemed normal.
My vote would be for a TSX, TL, G35 Sedan, M35, Hyundai Velocester?, etc

Well, plus he works at a dealership.
Nobody brings in their Acura saying "Hey man, i just wanted to let you know that my transmission works AWESOMELY, just wanted to drop the car off for a quick visit."
The number of Acuras he sees in there with a dead transmission are probably more like 0.05% of the Acuras he sees weekly in general in the wild.
