I think it'd be neat to see a more-adapted version of the Modifieds... Those things were rolling like ships at sea... But the minimalist cage/V8/huge-tires combo is seriously compelling.
I've enjoyed watching 1/4-mile dirt ovals in person *a lot* (especially Sprints and if my terminology is right, Late Models; we don't have this sort of Modified out here in the PNW that I know of, and the IMCA and 4-cyl Modifieds aren't as exciting).
You can see a lot more of what happens on a short oval than on a road course as a spectator, but I would much rather *drive* a road course. Though I'd love to drive a sprint car in its natural habitat. Or at least limp it around the track while I wet myself in terror...
I went and saw the world of outlaws while in Tennessee on a business trip. It was just a small dumpy dirt track. The first set of hot laps were sheer terror for me as a spectator! 'Holy crap, that guys not gonna stop. No way he makes the corner... Holy E36 M3 he's coming straight toward me and that catch fence has seen better days.'. Then the flick into oversteer and around the corner they went. Just an amazing sight that needs to be witnessed in person to grasp the true pants-pooping insanity that it actually is.

Nascar pavement style modifieds used to go to Watkins Glen and Lime Rock Park. The fun wears off pretty quick trying to get a car built for left hand turns trying to turn right. Gotta admit, the dirt mods look a bit more suited to turning in both directions. And for anyone that wants to drive a sprint car - http://www.driveondirt.com/

That looks really cool... Too bad I'm so far from NC.
Stuff like this:

Haunts me.
So what suspension would you put on that for roadracing?

Lalalala...I can't hear you!
D'oh...I looked. Man...I want that (but for, like, half the price).
I suppose for road racing you'd just put the same size tires on each side in the rear. Square it up as good as you can and steer with the throttle pedal. I don't know what kind of weight distribution (front/rear) sprint cars have, but I bet it's pretty favorable.
Man...I want that.
might want an a-arm front suspension for starters
the beam axle might be fun... but just for a little while
... and correct the stagger
Seriously, couldn't you graft a suspension clip from a Miata or a Corvette onto something like that? I know it's easier said than done, but jeez...
If you are going to mod it to make it more capable on pavement then you are messing up what makes tht video so awesome.
What they need to do it have a race weekend. On day on dirt, one day on the road course. Make the only change between the two courses the tires and alignment. Points totaled for the overall winner. Not sure there that could happen, maybe Charlotte, Daytona or IRP. Can't be too many road course, dirt track combos out there.

I'm not so interested in recreating the Modified video as taking advantage of stupid-cheap lightweight V8 sprint cars that would run like stink on virtually stock engines.
The guys racing in the video sure look like dirt track guys. That little esses part of the track you can see them trying to flick the rear out to counter steer. Not really the fastest way to negotiate through there on a paved surface. Also, you can see some of them going deep into braking zones on the outside. Just some stuff you see at dirt tracks.
Man, I am ready for the dirt track down the road to open back up.

Here's one. Or at least will be soon http://centralnewyorkracewaypark.com/

Dirt modifieds is one of the only types of racing I'll pay to watch. The road course does nothing for me.
got to go with the figure 8 bus and trailer races as well.
